Public Health England (PHE) was an Executive Agency of the Department of Health and Social Care, formed through the amalgamation of more than 100 local NHS organisations and health authorities across the UK in 2013.
PHE were still in the process of integrating systems, maturing their operating model, business functions and processes when the Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2020.
As the nation braced itself for the
pandemic, the government made a strategic decision to merge Public Health England, Test and Trace and the Joint Bio- Security Centre, forming the new UK Health Security Agency. This required PHE to begin the process of mapping their entire business and application portfolio to support both merging and demerging activities.
To address the challenge, CloudKubed introduced the LeanIX Continuous Transformation Platform. Using the Enterprise Architecture & Application Portfolio Management modules, we delivered a discovery process, importing manually gathered data and leveraging LeanIX Questionnaires. We mapped the organisational business capabilities to their applications and technology landscape, providing a holistic view of UKHSA.
CloudKubed worked with the business to capture key information about applications, including; business criticality & technical fit. We captured technology components within LeanIX, allowing us to model technical risk and associated lifecycle reports.
We leveraged the information within LeanIX to build custom dashboards with specific insights related to PHE, Test & Trace, Joint Bio–Security Centre, DHSC, NHS-D & NHS-E/I.
UKHSA now has a single-pane-of-glass for management of their Enterprise Architecture, Application Portfolio and Technology Landscape.
This enables them to make data driven decisions, using the insights provided by LeanIX to drive forward merging and demerging activities, whilst also supporting future transformation initiatives.
LeanIX is now UKHSA’s strategic Enterprise Architecture tool, providing a platform with a community of users with assigned ownership and accountability for their respective portfolios. LeanIX helps to accelerate future transformational activities as well as managing technical risk through the Lifecycle Catalogue.
